Treatment of underarm bloat and hyperhidrosis in children - treatment using EL method
Child's armpit
Hyperhidrosis treatment
-Treatment using EL method
Causes of wakiga
Armpit odor is caused by apocrine and eccrine sweat glands.Apocrine sweat glands are involved in odor, and eccrine sweat glands are involved in sweat.Fatty acids secreted from the apocrine sweat glands are mixed with bacteria such as bacteria that are resident on the skin and produce odors.Eccrine sweat glands are related to the activity of the sympathetic nerve, which is one of the autonomic nerves, and increase sweating beyond the range necessary for regulating body temperature. It is said that about 10% of all Japanese people suffer from armpit bloating and hyperhidrosis.
The place is not just the armpit
Since apocrine sweat glands are distributed not only in the armpits but also in the sensitive zone and areola, many people suffer from hem armpit irritation and areola armpit irritation.Armpit odor can be eliminated by removing the apocrine sweat glands that are the source of odor.So why do we sweat so much?
Why do you sweat a lot?
Hyperhidrosis is a symptom that is related to the activity of the sympathetic nerve, one of the autonomic nerves, and abnormally increases sweating beyond the range necessary to regulate body temperature. Symptoms are common in armpits, palms, soles, and heads. If there is no odor, it is common practice to control sweat by regularly applying antiperspirant injections.
miraDry® is a microwave-based medical device that acts on eccrine sweat glands to treat severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis. Recently, a case report has been made of a death that is likely due to the use of miraDry® on an unsuitable area (Wen S, et al. Legal Medicine 2022;58:102095). According to the report, a healthy woman who received miraDry® treatment on the perineum, genitals, and perianal area due to body odor experienced severe side effects after treatment, such as persistent fever, persistent pain, and bleeding from the treatment area, and died on the sixth day due to a rapid deterioration of her general condition, which is thought to be due to Fournier's gangrene complicated by toxic shock-like syndrome (case pending). It is unclear at this time whether the miraDry®️ treatment was directly related to the cause of death. In addition, in this case, miraDry®️ was not used to treat severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis. However, we would like to ask you to confirm the content of the appropriate use of miraDry®️ again. miraDry® is a specially-managed medical device and a special maintenance-managed medical device, meaning that if side effects or malfunctions occur when the device is used properly for its intended purpose, it may have a serious impact on human life and health, and therefore requires proper management. The package insert (6nd edition) of August 2019 includes the following warning:
[Purpose or effect of use]
This product is a device used to treat severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis.
【warning】
When diagnosing primary axillary hyperhidrosis, follow the latest guidelines for the treatment of primary focal hyperhidrosis. * [Incorrect diagnosis of hyperhidrosis, assessment of severity, and identification of sweating sites can make it difficult to balance risks and benefits.]
[Taboos and Prohibitions]
Applicable subjects (patients)
1. This treatment should not be applied to the following patients: • Patients with pacemakers or other electronic devices embedded in their bodies [This may cause malfunctions in the embedded medical electronic devices, leading to serious accidents] • Patients with metal implants near the armpits or with tattoos [The embedded metal may generate heat and cause burns] • Patients with malignant tumors or skin malignant tumors in the treatment area [There is a concern that the malignant tumor may become activated]

MiraDry is not effective against body odor. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has approved it as a medical device only for patients who suffer from "primary axillary hyperhidrosis," which is excessive sweating in the armpit area. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's website clearly states that it has not been approved as a treatment for body odor because it has not been found to be effective against body odor.
According to a statement from the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency, "The clinical trial results for MiraDry showed that it was unable to meet the clinical trial criteria for odor. Overall, therefore, the review has concluded that the product is only suitable for treating hyperhidrosis, and that it did not demonstrate any odor-reducing effect."
The examination was based on the procedure performed by a doctor, but most beauty clinics use nurses for the procedure. This further reduces the effectiveness and increases the risk. MiraDry is not intended for use in treating anything other than underarm sweating. Neither safety nor effectiveness has been confirmed. It does not reduce odor.
Do you have any problems?
Have you ever lived with a child and do not realize this?
When doing laundry
Noticeable yellow stains on children's clothes
When exercising with children
You may be sweating more than other children.
If you suspect this, your child may be suffering from armpit irritation or hyperhidrosis.
It is important to be close to your child when dealing with armpit gaps and hyperhidrosis!
To those who are worried about the recurrence of wakiga
Approximately half of our patients were treated at other hospitals. These include people who have undergone miraDry, Beauhot, and surgery that have not been effective or have caused complications. Our hospital's EL method allows for retreatment.
Child's treatment
In our hospital, we use the following four methods.
EL method (electrolysis method)
It is a treatment method that uses electronic energy to pinpoint the source of odor, sweat, and yellow stains, and is less stressful on the body.
HIFU (High intensity focused ultrasonic method)
This is a treatment method that uses focused energy from ultrasound to pinpoint the sweat glands to destroy them.Suitable for low to moderate armpit irritation and causes less damage to the skin.
Sweat injection
Just by hitting the injection, you can easily reduce sweat and odor in a short time. The effect varies from person to person, but it takes about half a year.
Wakiga cream
As it is for medical use, it will not cause rashes or post-inflammation after prolonged use. Insurance prescription is also possible.

Notes on EL method
Since anesthesia is injected, temporary internal bleeding may occur, but this will disappear within about a week. The EL method uses a thin needle to generate heat, which causes mild inflammation in the hair follicles, and redness may remain for about 1-1 weeks. In addition, the surrounding subcutaneous tissue also shrinks due to thermal coagulation, so you may feel a sense of tightness and discomfort for about 2-1 weeks. Temporary pigmentation in the hair follicles may occur, but this will disappear within a short period of time.
Mechanism of EL law
The EL (Electrolysis) method uses high frequency energy to pinpoint and destroy apocrine sweat glands (source of odor), eccrine sweat glands (source of sweat), and sebaceous glands (source of yellow spots). This is a method to reduce sweat, odor, and yellow spots. It can also be used on the hem and nipples. The EL method is a treatment that puts less strain on the body. The reasons why it is not widespread include the fact that it is extremely difficult to master the technique, the need to purchase special equipment, and the fact that it takes much more time and effort than surgery, and therefore medical institutions cannot expect to make a profit.
EL method treatment flow
1.Blood test
We conduct blood tests to prevent nosocomial infections and eliminate risks.
2. Disinfect the affected area
We perform disinfection to perform hygienically.
3. Anesthetic injection
Use extreme care to avoid pain.
4. Implementation of EL method by the director
5. Cooling and application of ointment
Apply ointment and cool to prevent redness and folliculitis.
HIFU
High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is intensively applied to the apocrine and eccrine sweat glands, and the two sweat glands can be destroyed due to thermal coagulation, and can be used simultaneously with the EL method. Ideal for mild to moderate wakiga, with little post-operative pain and little skin damage.

Child's armpit
When do children start to smell?
Armpit irritation that develops in elementary school students is likely to be genetic, and most people have parents or grandparents who suffer from armpit irritation.Apocrine sweat glands, which are the cause of armpits along with secondary sexual characteristics, develop rapidly from around the age of 10 to 12.Children's armpit bugs develop around the age of 10 for girls and around 12 to 13 for boys, and can cause an unpleasant odor and yellow stains on clothes and underwear.
Surgery carefully!
If you simply undergo other treatments, your armpit irritation may not heal, and you may suffer from scars for the rest of your life.At our hospital, we provide treatment tailored to each patient's concerns, and we also offer methods that will make the scar less noticeable. Please feel free to contact us if you are concerned about your child's armpit irritation.
How parents can prevent children's armpit bugs
Change clothes if you sweat
When taking a bath, use soap to carefully remove dirt.If you sweat a lot during the day, it is also effective to wipe your armpits with a sweat wipe containing antibacterial ingredients or alcohol to kill odor-causing bacteria. Also, be sure to change your clothes frequently if you sweat.
Deodorant measures
Underarm odor is caused by the growth of bacteria. It is also a good idea to use a commercially available deodorant that prevents the growth of bacteria and treats odor and sweat at the same time.
Watch your meal
Animal fats, such as those found in meat and butter, activate the sebaceous glands and apocrine glands, so Japanese food is better than Western food, which is high in animal fats.
If you wish to treat your child
Parents are welcome to accompany you to treatment.
Parents are welcome to accompany their child and watch the entire process so that they can relax and enjoy the treatment. (Bleeding and swelling are rarely observed during treatment.)
