Reports of troubles and accidents of successive cosmetic surgery
Complaints and troubles with cosmetic surgery that were not publicized before have recently been widely covered in the media. Unlike medical malpractice, there are many troubles due to unjust billing for medical expenses. Here is what has been reported recently. There have been a series of troubles where medical institutions have forced customers to enter into unjust credit contracts for hair removal and breast augmentation surgery. The Installment Sales Act allows customers to default on payments to credit companies if the product or service is defective, but medical procedures are not covered by it. On the 25th, lawyers will launch the first dedicated telephone service, the "High-cost Cosmetic Medical Victims 110." "I asked for circumcision surgery based on an advertisement for 110,000 yen, but at the time of the surgery I was told that it would cost 1.7 to 1.8 million yen, and a credit contract had already been prepared for me." "I saw an advertisement for 85,000 yen, and when I consulted about double eyelid surgery at the clinic, I was persuaded for two hours and signed a contract for 2.7 million yen, but my eyelids swelled after the surgery." The consumer consultation service of the Second Tokyo Bar Association receives one or two such medical loan consultation calls per month. Similar calls are also being made to medical consultation hotlines. According to the National Consumer Affairs Center, there were 1,253 complaints and inquiries about cosmetic medical treatments in fiscal 2006, a 1.4-fold increase over three years. Nearly 80% of the total were related to contracts and cancellations. In the case of beauty salons, profit-first salons that deviate from their original duties are damaging the image of the industry, and the same is true for cosmetic surgery. It is also necessary to thoroughly drain the pus in order to purify the industry. We hope that the government will also crack down strictly.
