Patients suffering from aftereffects: "I wasn't given enough explanation"

Treatment for aftereffects: In some cases, medical institutions cannot be found
Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and academic societies to strengthen measures
Amid a succession of complaints about health hazards related to cosmetic medical treatments, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has decided to strengthen measures to ensure safety. Specifically, it plans to require clinics and other facilities providing cosmetic medical treatments to report to prefectures and other local governments once a year on whether they are properly managing safety. Furthermore, a survey conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare last year on clinics providing cosmetic medical treatments found that 33.8% of the facilities had no manuals or training on how to deal with problems such as aftereffects. In light of this, academic societies related to cosmetic medical treatments have decided to compile "guidelines" in the future that outline methods for explaining the risks of aftereffects and other problems in advance, and how to establish an aftercare system.
Expert: "Ask the clinic's doctor for details about risks and responses"

Regarding the recent spate of problems, such as aftereffects, Director Haraoka Goichi of the Japanese Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (JSAPS) has pointed out, "While some beauty clinics are putting a lot of effort into safety measures, there are by no means many that can be said to be responding adequately. They should first treat and examine patients themselves, and if advanced treatment is required at a university hospital, they should take responsibility and write a referral." He goes on to say that for people considering using cosmetic medical treatment, "I would like you to ask the doctors at the clinic in detail about what risks there are and what measures will be taken in the unlikely event that complications or aftereffects occur. If you are not satisfied with the situation, it is important to refrain from using the service."
