Reading Time: <1 minutehttps://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/html/20241026/k10014619571000.html There have been reports of medical accidents during regenerative medicine treatments. Similar troubles caused by stem cell infusions have occurred, but they have not been made public. The increase in clinics that easily perform regenerative medicine (which is often performed for the purpose of cancer treatment or anti-aging to rejuvenate the body, as it brings in a lot of profits) has also increased the number of such victims. There is a risk of similar accidents occurring with exosome infusions. Many doctors know that it is much riskier than general infusions. The reason is that the formulations are reagents and there are many cases where strict management and safety are not guaranteed. There is a risk of sepsis if contaminated reagents are administered. The quality of the culture and CPC is not uniform and is not standardized, so reagents made with poor quality media or rough culture methods are circulated and sold as exosome reagents, and are actually administered at unscrupulous cosmetic surgery clinics that prioritize profit. It is no exaggeration to say that unscrupulous cosmetic surgery clinics always perform exosome infusions. Cosmetic surgeons are not specialists in exosome therapy, and many cosmetic surgeons have no knowledge of it at all. We recommend that you never receive exosome infusions performed at cosmetic surgery clinics. It is a reagent and there is no evidence of safety or efficacy, nor any standardized protocol. There is even a possibility that it may cause cancer or inflammation. It cannot be denied that exosome infusion for anti-aging purposes may cause aging to progress.

Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare issues emergency order to suspend medical services due to serious infection caused by regenerative medicine

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has issued an emergency order to the clinic to temporarily suspend the provision of regenerative medicine after a patient who had received regenerative medicine at a clinic in Tokyo for the purpose of preventing cancer and other diseases contracted a serious infection and was hospitalized. The cause of the incident will be investigated in detail in the future.

The two clinics that received the orders are "THE K CLINIC" in Chuo Ward, Tokyo, and "Ikebukuro Clinic Culture Center" in Toshima Ward, Tokyo, both of which are operated by the medical corporation Kiho-kai. According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, two people who received regenerative medicine at the clinic for the purpose of preventing cancer and other diseases were hospitalized with severe symptoms due to an infection. The two were administered processed cells called NK cells. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare determined that there was a possibility of health damage spreading, and on the 2th, based on the Act on Ensuring the Safety of Regenerative Medicine, etc., issued an emergency order to the clinic and the center that cultivated the NK cells to temporarily suspend the provision of similar regenerative medicine. Regenerative medicine is provided as an elective medical treatment that is not covered by medical insurance, and the two hospitalized people are said to be recovering. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will investigate the cause in detail and investigate whether there are any other people suspected of health damage.
