Reading Time: <1 minuteMiraDry is being over-advertised as a treatment for body odor. As I have mentioned in my blog, MiraDry is ineffective against body odor. MiraDry is a medical device approved by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare as a treatment for primary axillary hyperhidrosis, but it is ineffective in reducing odor. In other words, it has been experimentally confirmed that it has no effect on body odor, and it has not been approved as a body odor treatment device. Despite this, there are many cosmetic surgery clinics that falsely advertise as if it is effective against body odor to attract customers. Especially recently, in order to attract customers, such false and exaggerated advertising alone is losing to the competition, so there are an increasing number of unscrupulous cosmetic surgery clinics that even lie about prices. It is a price war between so-called unscrupulous cosmetic surgery clinics. What can we do to keep prices down? It will drastically reduce the quality of medical care. They have new nurses who have no knowledge of body odor or hyperhidrosis perform the treatment. Moreover, they are not even familiar with operating the device. In order to upsell, they advertise that one session will cure you completely, but then they take out multiple courses of treatment and options (anesthesia, nitrous oxide, antibiotics, painkillers, consultations, etc.), and charge patients high treatment costs that are completely different from what they advertised. MiraDry costs 1 yen, but anesthesia costs 98000 yen, nitrous oxide 50000 yen, medication costs 30000 yen, follow-up fees 30000 yen, and painkiller days 10000 yen... Each treatment easily costs more than 10000 yen. They use this method to recommend multiple treatments. And the person in charge is a nurse. It's a scary method. If the treatment costs are low, it's easier to attract patients. As a result, the MiraDry treatment for armpit odor is much more expensive than the EL method we use at our clinic, has a lot of downtime, is risky, and has no effect at all, so it's a nurse who performs it. Recently, there are medical institutions where non-medical people run beauty clinics and offer MiraDry treatments under the slogan "cheap," but we have confirmed that these medical institutions also have no system in place for doctors to take responsibility for the treatment. Please make sure to check all of the following before receiving treatment: consultation by a specialist, anesthesia, medication (oral and topical), follow-up visit, guarantee, and medical expense deduction. Don't be fooled by seemingly fraudulent treatment fees. A specialist in underarm odor treatment would never provide advanced medical care at a low price. It is common sense for a medical institution to have the same specialist perform underarm odor treatment from start to finish, with responsibility for safety and effectiveness. Before receiving underarm odor treatment, please be sure to ask about the detailed costs and whether a nurse will be present.
