In May 2022, a research group from Tokyo Medical and Dental University reported the death of a woman who underwent MiraDry treatment. After receiving MiraDry treatment in areas other than the armpits (around the lower abdomen), the woman experienced serious side effects such as fever and bleeding, and ultimately died from a fatal infection called Fournier's gangrene. In response to this accident, seven medical societies and organizations in Japan issued a warning about the proper use of MiraDry. It is not recommended to use MiraDry in areas other than the armpits, and its use in areas outside of its intended use may cause serious side effects and complications..
