Reading Time: <1 minuteHundreds of patients visit our clinic throughout the year for consultations regarding moles. Even if they diagnose themselves as having a mole, it may actually be a type of freckle, a viral tumor, a benign tumor, an hemangioma, or even a malignant tumor. Two to three patients with malignant tumors visit our clinic each year. At our clinic, we do not just examine moles visually, but also use a biomicroscope called a dermoscopy to diagnose them. This diagnostic device can diagnose whether or not the tumor is malignant with a high probability. The most common malignant tumor is basal cell carcinoma. From our many years of experience, we can make a diagnosis with just a history interview and visual examination, but with a dermoscopy, we can make a diagnosis almost 2% of the time. In this case, surgery by excision is necessary, and treatment with laser or electrolysis is not applicable. Of course, all tumors and moles suspected to be malignant undergo pathological examination for a definitive diagnosis. Recently, a weekly magazine has criticized a rogue cosmetic surgery clinic that attracts customers with zero-yen advertisements and charges high treatment fees of 3 yen to remove a single mole. It seems that this clinic is committing crimes by having doctors not make diagnoses. Many patients who have already fallen victim to this rogue cosmetic surgery clinic have found that people calling themselves counselors explain all the examinations, diagnoses, treatment methods, and treatment costs, and then forcefully recommend the treatment, performing outrageous treatments. Of course, this rogue cosmetic surgery clinic does not perform dermascopy or pathological diagnosis at all. In other words, all moles are just a way to attract customers to make money by removing moles. A horrible thing is happening. There is no way that counselors can tell whether a mole is malignant or benign, and if they remove it without a pathological diagnosis, if it is a nasty tumor like malignant melanoma, it can be fatal if left untreated and metastasized. Many patients are deceived by the zero-yen advertisements, visit this clinic, and end up undergoing treatment under house arrest. If you are a cosmetic surgeon, you are all aware of the long-standing criminal acts of this rogue cosmetic surgery clinic. Something has to be done...
